Project Overview

Unity for Security

In 2017, HUMAN partnered with INTERPOL, the United Arab Emirates, and the INTERPOL Foundation to produce Unity for Security—a groundbreaking anthem film that marked INTERPOL’s first major foray into cinematic storytelling. Created for a historic convening of global police chiefs, ministers, and private sector leaders in Abu Dhabi, the film served as both a rallying cry and a visionary blueprint for unified action against transnational crime. Through evocative imagery, a powerful narrative, and a deeply human message, the project reframed the complex challenges of global crime—from cyber threats and terrorism to human trafficking and cultural destruction—as a shared responsibility that transcends borders. More than just a communications piece, Unity for Security became a symbolic cornerstone for a new era of international cooperation, using the power of story to inspire coordination, trust, and innovation across the world’s policing community. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the Unity for Security Forum, taking place from 28 to 30 March 2017, is an INTERPOL forum organized in partnership with the Government of the United Arab Emirates, and the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World. The Forum will bring together ministers, senior government officials, and representatives from the private sector, to collectively discuss and address common issues. It will enable participants to identify their responsibilities in combating future security threats focused around seven INTERPOL projects on counter-terrorism, cybercrime, cultural heritage, vulnerable communities, vehicle crime, drugs and illicit goods.

Case Study

Interpol

In 2017, HUMAN was invited to collaborate with INTERPOL, the world’s largest international police organization, in partnership with the United Arab Emirates and the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World. The mission: to produce INTERPOL’s first high-level cinematic film, unveiled during the landmark Unity for Security event in Abu Dhabi. The gathering brought together global police chiefs, ministers, and private sector leaders to address seven pressing global crime challenges—including terrorism, cybercrime, and human trafficking.

The film had a clear purpose: to reframe how the public and world leaders perceive transnational crime—not as isolated incidents, but as part of a deeply interconnected global system that demands an equally connected response. We set out to create an emotional, visual narrative that moved beyond institutional messaging to capture the human impact of crime and the urgent need for innovative, unified policing in the digital age.

Narrated with poetic urgency and underscored by a hauntingly powerful score, Unity for Security opens with a provocative insight: we may be living in the safest time in human history, but the complexity of our global systems has given rise to new vulnerabilities. From the smuggling of illicit goods to cyberattacks and child exploitation, the film explores how crime today is borderless—impacting communities, economies, and lives across the planet in ways often invisible and far-reaching.

To convey this global reality, we used an evocative mix of cinematic footage, archival imagery, and kinetic editing—showing both the threat and the resilience of international policing. The story culminates in a rallying call: “When any part of humanity becomes safer, we are all more free.” This philosophy—of mutual security and shared responsibility—became the emotional heartbeat of INTERPOL’s vision.

What made the film truly historic was its debut: presented before hundreds of the world’s top security officials in Abu Dhabi, it set the tone for an unprecedented set of cooperative agreements. The Unity for Security initiative aimed to move beyond diplomacy into real-time data sharing, training, and technological innovation—using storytelling as the connective tissue.

The HUMAN team worked hand-in-hand with INTERPOL’s senior leadership and UAE partners, navigating the sensitivities of global law enforcement messaging while elevating the universal values at stake. This was not just a brand film—it was a diplomatic tool, a morale builder, and a symbol of a new era of international cooperation.

The success of Unity for Security demonstrated the power of storytelling to inspire alignment across sectors, ideologies, and borders. It laid the groundwork for future communications by INTERPOL and remains one of the organization’s most-watched and shared media assets. More than a film, it was a statement: that in a fractured world, unity is our greatest defense.
